The safest is to capitalize on a lucky start to a retaliation mission. There are basically two options to complete this. Shutting this down in three turns is not usually feasible. For most of the turns on a retaliation mission, advent will target at least one civilian, sometimes two. If you have not earned this at that point, your best bet is to try to complete it on your next playthrough. I say this because at a certain point in the game advent will stop sending retaliation missions. This is perhaps the most missable achievement in the game. Any units left in the fire cone will take heavy damage. If you are targeted by that beam and can not destroy the sectopod that turn, you must move out of the blast cone. It will hit everyone in the blast range and destroy cover. They have an area effect attack that targets one turn and fires the next. Sectopods can raise themselves to stand at a height advance. A lucky shot with a repeater attachment can do the trick too. If given enough time to fight back, a sectopod is a dangerous foe, so defeating one on the first turn is an excellent strategy. A ranger's rapid fire at close range can do 30+ damage with the shard gun. If you have most of your attacks available and plasma weapons, you can destroy it in one turn. Start with attacks that destroy the armour. You will want to focus all fire power on it until it is defeated. On the turn that the sectopod appears in the mission, you have to destroy it before the end of your turn.

It is better to use it a little later in the mission when you expect fewer unit to be hiding off screen.Īnother sectopod related achievement. Also, if used early in a mission, advancing that far on the enemy might activate additional units that you did not know were nearby. If only one movement point was required, you will still have an action.

A point of caution your unit will end its move where the attempt took place so try not to leave them exposed. It is not too difficult as long as you actively use the skull mining option most missions. You will want to attempt get the achievement in one playthrough. For the achievement you will need to use this on a trooper, officer, shield barer, and a lancer. This attack has a 70% probability of success. If contact is not successful in the first place, the advent unit will take a couple points of damage. If the hack fails, your unit will take a couple points of damage, but the target will still die. If contact is made, you will get a hack option to pick one of two rewards. The wielder will run up next to the target and will attempt the hacking. Once each mission you can target a "human" advent unit. It will cause the skull jack to improve the holders hacking skill, and it will also allow the carrier to continue to hack Advent units. This is a good project to complete as soon as reasonably possible. Now I am become death with capacitor discharge.Īfter you complete the skull jack project in the proving ground, a new project called skull mining will become available. Here is a video of the capacitor discharge method: A psi op has several powers that could be effective like void rift and null lance if you can target and kill enough units in one shot.

A grenadier could do it with saturation fire. It is possible to place a ranger on the flare of a reinforcement drop and have them take a swing at the whole squad. A rangers blade storm would be a more difficult option.

It does not count as an explosive and will work if you can get enough weak enemies to die in the blast. Another possibility is a specialists capacitor discharge. Best bet is to have several weak enemies in pistol range of the shooter so the pistol shot can get multiple kills. A sharpshooter can use faceoff to target multiple enemies in one move. You will need to efficiently use a soldiers advanced abilities to unlock this. The requirement is self explanatory, but the process can be tricky. A satisfying achievement when you unlock it.
