In my case, I mistakenly installed Office2013 from when I had an Office365 subscription. If it does not match the product type installed, that is your problem. Once you have determined which Office type you have, open any office program and choose File->Account and under the product information area, make sure the Office product type (either Office365 or Office 2013 Home/Pro, etc.) matches your purchased Office product (on the activation card). First thing you need to make sure is finding out which version of Office you have, if you still have the activation card(that has the code on it), it should say Office365 or Office2013. While the actual office apps are the same, the licensing is not, which may be the reason why you're having trouble activating. From the sound of it, you might have Office365 instead of Office2013.
